English / Soapnut tree
Family / Sapindaceae
Dose / For emesis- 3 to 6 gm., for purgation- 4 to 8 gm; for medicinal purpose- 0.5 to 1 gm.
External use / Anti- inflammatory.
Internal use / It purifies vitiated Kapha & Pitta by emetic & purgative actions whereas alleviates Vata by snigdha & ushna properties. Seed- intoxicant. Fruit rind has oxytropic action. Fruit water or powder- migraine(nasya). In morphine poisoning, it is given orally to induce emesis.
